The good news is that more people of every race, ethnic group, and gender are educated today than ever before. We are in the quiet phase of the capital campaign now, and we will launch the public phase for $150 million in the spring. We have many international partnerships, such as those with Kyushu University in Japan and Kassel University in Germany. As we celebrate the 119th anniversary of Tau Kappa Epsilons founding, we once again have an opportunity to recall our origins and use them as inspiration for continued excellence in our lives. As faithful Fraters in Tau Kappa Epsilon, each of us continues to develop our own abilities. Welcome Speech for Chief Guest They need us and as a fraternity we have a need of them. It is the plate. Whether a few dollars of your finances or a few hours of your time, you can make a difference to our current and future Fraters to shape a more prosperous Fraternity. The percentage of Americans with a college degree increased to 6 percent in 1950, and then to about 10 percent by the mid-1960s when UMBC was founded. That amount includes substantial contributions from faculty, staff, and alumni. With nearly 12,000 collegiate members, Tau Kappa Epsilon contributes to the advancement of society through the personal growth of our members, and service to others. Frater Settles and I shared another bond besides TKE. Frater LaBranche further stated that We cannot shelter our responsibility for the future of our Fraternity. Now, following in his footsteps as your Grand Prytanis, I cannot echo that sentiment strongly enough today. For the first time in a generation since 1992, our chapters and colonies initiated more than 4,000 new men. In TKE, the term fraternity man took on a new and positive meaning, something that has endured to this day 116 years later. Our Founders wanted an organization that would be different from other fraternities. It is always the result of high intentions, sincere effort, and intelligent execution. UMBC is now an inclusive, selective, highly residential research university. That fundamental membership requirement of personal worth and character has withstood the test of time, and its as relevant today as ever. We share equipment, our faculty are developing joint proposals to NIH, we administer a joint MD-PhD program, and we send large numbers of students to professional schools social work, law, medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. If we truly live our mission, if we light ourselves on fire with passion for what we value, if we truly exemplify personal worth and character in the tenor of our daily lives, we will continue to inspire men and leave a trail they will follow. Through an $18 million BUILD grant from the National Institutes of Health, we are extending best practices from our scholar programs to the entire student population. Dear Sisters, We send warm greetings to each of you on the 122nd anniversary of AOIIs founding. Together, they and we help define Wake Forests story. I believe that Tau Kappa Epsilon has the ability to lead the fraternal world by living our Declaration of Principles. While they believed college was not for everyone and you didnt need book smarts to survive in the world, college was for their son. The Grand Council and I are engaged with numerous stakeholders in strategic conversations about changes we can champion together to safeguard our future. They are representative of the creative class in the State of Maryland. o Times Higher Education has ranked UMBC in the Top 100 of its Global 150 Under 50 Universities a ranking we no longer qualify for as of today! From modest beginnings, we have solidified our place as a Doctoral University with Higher Research Activity, as designated by the current Carnegie Classification. The Pell Grant program, which today provides extensive need-based federal student aid, was created in the Higher Education Act Amendments of 1972 under Nixon. We have the possibility of running for the Grand Council and charting the path of the Grand Chapter. We continue to build an entrepreneurial climate for economic development. Only a small number of students lived on campus. Organizations are founded only once, and the best ones renew themselves continually. 5)Welcome song. Undoubtedly, Abraham Lincoln would not have met some of the modern fraternity tests in polished appearance, bank and bond holdings, but he did possess what is better still, that wealth of character which has ever been the standard of Tau Kappa Epsilon. 4)Felicitation of the guests. We have a growing partnership with Bowie State in cybersecurity and with UMES in the alliance for minority participation in science. We were born a small fraternity at a small school in Illinois and have grown into a great international organization. In our fraternity, we get real life learning opportunities not found in the classroom. We have just welcomed 2,800 new students to campus this fall, including 1,550 new freshmen. o We are an institution that can place teams in the top four nationally in mens soccer, chess, game development, and mini-Baja racing, all in one year! o Along with UMB and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, we jointly operate the Institute for Marine and Environmental Technology.
